Love spells are a kind of magic that have been present in many cultures around the world as a part of folk beliefs, both by clergy and laity of nearly every religion which have been or even are present and historical. Yet a common definition can be derived from all of these curation. They are not limited to the magic used in regards to love or lovemaking but the use of magic in some relationships. However, whether the purpose is purely sexual or romantic, such a theme is the same. The type of stuff and the processes employed in their practice do not differ significantly from the way other forms of magic are engaged in and include both spoken and written spells and incantations, dolls, talismans, amulets, potions, and rituals. The male-female relationship is a major focus of developmental psychology research and is often portrayed in the form of a heterosexual bias in the collected sources.
